Meta makes it easier for businesses to protect their brands with new IP reporting center and updates to protection tools

Takeaways

  • We are launching an updated version of Brands Rights Protection and a new Intellectual Property Reporting Center to help protect businesses against harm and misuse, increase transparency and resolve issues more efficiently.
  • We’re also introducing several changes to Rights Manager for images to allow businesses to manage and gain value from their content at scale.
  • We are always looking for new ways to prevent counterfeits, piracy and trademark violations, and we continue to invest in product solutions to improve the experience for businesses across our family of apps.

Today, we are releasing a new version of Brand Rights Protection, launching the new Intellectual Property Reporting Center and announcing several updates for Rights Manager as a part of our ongoing commitment to protect businesses across Meta’s platforms.

Over the years, we have built robust brand protection measures, and the new tools we are introducing today continue to reflect our investment in expanding our product capabilities and prioritizing the safety of the businesses who advertise with us.

Available today, these improvements will further help businesses manage their presence, report misuse and reduce the impact of intellectual property infringement, brand misrepresentation and scams. A few key changes include:

  • Brand Rights Protection now has saved searches and a larger reference library.
  • The new Intellectual Property Reporting Center provides a logged in reporting experience and report tracking.
  • Rights Manager has new features to help manage image content at scale.

New Version of Brand Rights Protection

Brand Rights Protection enables rights holders to monitor for misuse of their brand and report intellectual property infringement and business impersonation. We’re releasing a new version of Brand Rights Protection that is focused on increasing efficiency for the businesses that use Brand Rights Protection regularly through updates such as improved matching, saved searches, cross-surface searching and reference library expansion. These will help make it easier for brands to find and report intellectual property infringement and business impersonation.

The new version is located in the Meta Business suite and leverages our latest AI and machine learning capabilities to find higher quality matches based on brands’ previous usage of Brand Rights Protection. Other new and improved features for Brand Rights Protection include:

  • Saved Search: Saved search will allow you to save your most used search terms and filters and minimize reentry. Saved searches are unique to each user and do not sync across everyone with access to a business account.
  • Cross-Surface Search: Searches will run simultaneously across Ads, Commerce, Accounts and Posts, and will minimize the need to re-enter search terms after each log in.
  • Reference Library Expansion: The reference library limit is now 200 images (previously 50), allowing brands to monitor for more variations of their brand’s assets.

New Intellectual Property Reporting Center

Our IP reporting forms allow rights holders to report content they believe is infringing their intellectual property rights. The new Intellectual Property (IP) Reporting Center improves the process of reporting through these forms by saving relevant account information and keeping reporting history in one place. Reporters must log into their Facebook, Instagram or Business Manager account in order to access the IP Reporting Center. Multiple users who are logged in under the same Business Manager account will be able to see reporting history for the entire business. The Intellectual Property Reporting Center will save time for people who regularly use our IP Reporting Forms.

You can learn more about the Intellectual Property Reporting Center in our Help Center, and log in via Facebook, Instagram or Business Manager.

Updates to Rights Manager

Rights Manager is an automated matching tool that gives creators the ability to manage and protect their copyrighted content at scale. Brand Rights Protection and Rights Manager provide unique features to support rights holders who may use one or both of these tools, depending on the type of IP rights they wish to protect. We are expanding the actions rights holders can take for images in Rights Manager by adding three new features. These features will provide rights holders with more options to manage their content at scale, including the ability to automatically block infringing content or gain value through image attribution. These new features include:

  • Automatic blocking: Rights holders with a demonstrated need can now automatically block matching images.
  • Image attribution: Rights holders can now add attribution links to matching content on Facebook, and later on Instagram, providing ownership information about the matching image. Rights holders can also include a call to action inviting viewers to Follow, Email or Message their Page directly.
  • Bulk actions: Rights holders can now apply actions to multiple image reference files at the same time, increasing efficiency for reference library management.

Introducing New Meta For Business Web Resources

As we continue to expand features to help businesses protect their brands, Meta is also introducing Protecting Businesses, a new section of the Meta for Business website, which provides a guide to help businesses develop a brand protection strategy and mitigate the impact of brand misuse. The guide is broken down into three components – Protect, Monitor and Resolve – and takes businesses through Meta's best practices and available product solutions.

  • Protect: To help ensure that businesses can safely connect with people, we enable a multi-layer “defense-in-depth” strategy to proactively detect and prevent vulnerabilities. We provide brands with tools to verify and authenticate their Pages, accounts and intellectual property.
  • Monitor: We maintain several tools that enable brands to monitor for potential harms to make it easier for our customers to search and manage their brand’s presence across Meta Technologies.
  • Resolve: We’re continuously improving our reporting methods to support our customers' needs better and provide efficient, centralized and intuitive ways to report violating content and brand misuse.

We remain committed to partnering with businesses to help protect their brands' authentic presence across our platforms, both by providing more information on how to build a brand protection strategy and investing in our intellectual property tools. Our goal is to ensure businesses and rights holders can grow their brands, while controlling how their content is used.
